I suffer with Borderline Personality Disorder, anxiety, and depression. And it really annoys me when I hear people talk about their hard day at work, or how the car won’t start. And say that they’re ‘depressed’ because things are not going their way! There’s too much stigma about mental illness, and saying those things just makes it worse.

They have a husband/wife, or are in a really good relationship, with a house, a car, maybe kids, and enough money to enjoy life most of the time!

Things that I get mad about! Too much stigma about mental illness. I suffer with Borderline Personality Disorder, anxiety, and depression. It annoys me when people say they're 'depressed' because they're having a bad day!

Wow! How I would like most of the things they have!

The word ‘depressed’

The word ‘depressed’ gets used in many false ways by people who wouldn’t know the first thing about suffering. And they don’t want to know about people who DO actually suffer with mental illness, how we suffer inside and out. Or else they don’t understand or even try to!

To those people:
There is too much stigma about mental illness, especially with Borderline Personality Disorder! You just don’t understand if you don’t suffer with it! Please have some compassion for people who suffer, really suffer, with mental illness. Stop using the word ‘depressed’ in your life when you’re absolutely NOT suffering with depression!

You know who you are! Stop telling us to get outside and do something useful for the community too. I’ve had that said to me. I was told by an unknown person on Social Media to go pick up rubbish because that will make me feel better!

No amount of trying to get across to them my mental illness, and how BPD affects me, made any difference! We still have so far to go in trying to decrease the stigma and make people understand!

I speak out about my battle with BPD, and write articles, on a few Social Media platforms, to help and support others as well as myself. And it’s an everyday battle dealing with people who just don’t want to see our struggle!
