I have had some highs and lows recently. I struggle to find that middle ground. I am on holiday, surrounded by people who know me well, yet I still feel unable to sometimes let my feelings, very odd, true feelings, show.
I have done very little but feel exhausted. I am sat editing photos and career planning and really lacking the energy to move. I have slept lots, eaten and drank possibly too much.
It’s a beautiful day, and I should be out soaking in the sunshine. But I haven’t felt 100%.
Happiness is elusive
Happiness is a weird concept, I think it comes in small doses, whether it’s a laugh, a nice lunch or seeing a good play with friends, or even just cooking something lovely and feeling smug.
We all need to pinpoint those areas in life where we can get a small dose of happiness. Happiness is elusive, but it’s on a spectrum of emotions. Sometimes when we complete something difficult, it comes over us in waves. I recently taught myself some new skills in Photoshop, and I felt so so pleased with myself!! Unbelievably so! I thought, ‘Wow, I can do this. I can do anything.’ What I need to do, which is the hard part, is harness this feeling and go with the flow.
Holding onto joy
That’s the challenge: how to harness it and enjoy the simple things in life. I’m looking at practising mindfulness to hold onto the joy in the everyday and let go of what has been at times a tumultuous past.
Tell me… How do you cope? What are your small moments of joy? Can you hold them in your mind when times are tough?
