So it’s that time of year again, Love Island is back on our screens.
The people in charge of the show select people who are stereotypically ‘fit’, in every sense of the word. All the contestants are considered attractive. All the guys are well toned with six packs and the ladies slim, toned, with nice bums and breasts. There is a mixture of different personalities and characteristics to go with their bodies.
If you watch Love Island and then check social media, it is because it is interesting to see how the program makes viewers feel about themselves. And this is important. What I find scary is that most of these comments on social media are from younger males and females. Those who are already feeling pressure from society to look perfect.
What I’m simply trying to make clear is that your body shape doesn’t define you as a person. And it is easier to change your body than it is your natural personality. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for healthy living and looking after yourself, but equally you need to try and be happy in your skin.
I am not telling anyone not to watch Love Island. Simply if you do watch it, please do it with an open mind that there isn’t such a thing as ‘perfect’. And that your personality and character are massively important when it comes to you as a person and how you’re perceived by others.
You only have one body, so learn to love it, try not to care what other people think of it, as everyone is beautiful in their own way.
