It’s time we take ourselves back. Writing this poem tonight comes from my own personal battle with anxiety, a battle that till this day I am still winning. Anxiety can affect anyone from different backgrounds, it doesn’t have a preference. It will attack your weaknesses and will stop at nothing to destroy you. Having a mental health illness doesn’t make you less of a person. If you know anyone who is currently struggling with life at the moment, reach out and show them that you care, that they are loved and, most importantly, are needed.
You matter
We seriously need to talk about the idea that someone has to be on the brink of ending their own life in order for them to get mental health support. Early intervention could save a person’s life. We wouldn’t wait for every bone to break to before you treated someone’s broken leg.
You deserve to be here.
You are not alone.
And you are loved.
This is for anyone who is feeling like they have no reason to be here. You matter, you are loved and you are needed here. Please don’t give up. Believe me when I say this things get better and, like an ocean, tides do turn. Just please carry on.💚💚
Tonight’s poem is titled ‘My Anxiety’.
My Anxiety
You followed me yet again
I thought I could escape you just for a day
I thought I could forget and you’d just go away
I thought that maybe you had left
I thought that finally I had found a way.
When will you go away?
When will you stop doing this?
You attack me with no hesitation
There’s no telling when you will come.
But when you do, there’s no stopping you
You take control
My emotions a mess
My heart racing.
But let me tell you this. You may think you’re taking control of me but I’m learning how to deal with you and believe me when I say this: I will take myself back and you will no longer be in charge. Because as of today I take myself back from you. Signed Me.
