Even the Happiest of People
Wow, I didn’t know they had depression. They always seemed so happy and had everything going for them.
This is a common sentence we all use when someone we knew and loved has taken their own life. The happiest people, the most successful people and the most talented people can suffer from a mental health issue no matter their background. The statistics prove that so many of us will have a mental health issue. Many will also think about suicide or even have suicidal thoughts.
Snap Out of it
It’s a sad reality that people living with a mental illness will hear inappropriate comments, sometimes at a time when they are struggling. A glib, flippant or offhand comment, whether born of ignorance, awkwardness or arrogance can cut to the bone and leave people questioning their place in this tough world.
I’ve been told many times to “get over it”, “snap out of it”, “it’s all in your head” or the best one, “you don’t seem unwell”. Nobody really knows how much anyone is hurting. We could be standing next to someone who is completely broken, and we’d never know. So, be kind, always, with yourself and others.
Hope.
