By Sean McNulty
My name is Sean McNulty, and I have depression.
I am not sure how long I have been walking down this road, but all I know is that I took a mental breakdown last year. I cried for help – I did not know what to do. Everything was going so well, and then, without warning, I was at the doctor’s, receiving antidepressants.
I worked in a call centre, and I took four weeks off to get better. Once I returned, I noticed that my depression was affecting my performance. I started to think I’d gone back too early.
My work did not understand what I was going through, and the capacity meetings they put me through were terrible, to the point that I didn’t sleep.
I finally had enough and quit my job. Two weeks later, I tried to commit suicide, and then I managed to get help. I have a second chance now and I want to share my story. In time, things do get better.
