Read Time:1 Minute, 56 Second
By Simon Mandrell

What’s this darkness lying inside?
It kills our men… it’s suicide.
Men’s biggest killer up to fifty,
too many lives over swiftly.

For thirty years, men’s deaths the same;
our care system a crying shame.
Back to the Eighties, not just in deaths,
more and more men, take their last breaths.

Dangling Fruit. What’s this darkness lying inside? | It kills our men... it’s suicide. | Men’s biggest killer up to fifty, | too many lives over swiftly.

…. suicide is painful.
It brings back all my demons
and I can’t take or leave it, if I choose.

Boys, some dying as young as ten,
still self-slaughter, a fifth of them.
Throughout their teens, a trail of woe.
How is nineteen an age to go?

Young men twenty to thirty-four
prime of their lives, ready to soar.
For one fifth, poison seals their fall.
A third of them just end it all.

…. suicide is painful
It brings back all my demons
and I can’t take or leave it, if I choose.

Twenty to fifty: number one loss
The top killer: hang from a cross.
‘Life may begin…’ but be afraid;
it gets much worse when middle-aged.

Forty to sixty, ages less reached,
forty percent more lives have ceased.
Stresses and pressures take their toll;
branding irons burn out our soul.

…. suicide is painful.
It brings back all the angels
and we can make the changes, if we choose.

Six out of ten die through hanging.
It seems quite strange, like fruit dangling,
that we all sit, to pick and choose
which deaf ear listens to the news.

If you are poor, hard-working class,
Scotsmen, Welshmen left out en masse,
all these men ten times more likely
to imbue a hara-kiri psyche.

…. suicide is painful.
It brings back all the angels
and we can make the changes, if we choose.

Our brothers, sons and our fathers
who aren’t in heaven with the others;
now face to face, heart to heart,
lives can stop being torn apart.

It could be me, it could be you,
fall victim to unspoken taboo.
Broken men can’t stem the tide
of the horror that’s male suicide.

…. suicide is painful.
It brings back all the angels
and we can make the changes, if we choose.
… we can make the changes, if we choose.
