A common problem for people living with dissociative identity disorder is switching headaches. I am going to write this piece about my own experiences.
Stop believing everything you hear and everything you’re told, even from your own mind. Take the time to figure out what you feel is right. Shift the power.
What a borderline!! Or, psycho! These words are thrown to demean and insult. To ‘normal’ people, they may sound ok. But I find these words stigmatizing.
My depression is hidden from everyone. From these poems I write I hope that I get the message out to people about what it’s like to have a mental illness.
This is my message for Mental Health Awareness. Not the one I planned, but one that is authentic and important, slightly nerve wracking to make public, but essential.
No matter where you live on planet Earth, if you are human you can develop a mental health crisis which can turn into a lifelong battle against a mental health disorder.
We already have a difficult inner battle we’re fighting every day. The last thing we should have to deal with on top of this is stigma from ignorant people.
Anxiety doesn’t show on the outside. The doctor noted my ‘full face of makeup’. But inside, I have been extremely poorly. And others are suffering quietly.
