How you claim and put stock into labels about your illness and your world is up to you. I personally feel it’s important not to get tangled up in semantics.
I give out advise the best I can but don’t heed my own words. I wouldn’t think any less of someone else doing what I have done. So, why do I find it so hard
What a borderline!! Or, psycho! These words are thrown to demean and insult. To ‘normal’ people, they may sound ok. But I find these words stigmatizing.
If we all talk about mental health, it normalises it, which helps with acceptance for those suffering & too scared to seek help, which also mean less stigma
This is my message for Mental Health Awareness. Not the one I planned, but one that is authentic and important, slightly nerve wracking to make public, but essential.
No matter where you live on planet Earth, if you are human you can develop a mental health crisis which can turn into a lifelong battle against a mental health disorder.
We already have a difficult inner battle we’re fighting every day. The last thing we should have to deal with on top of this is stigma from ignorant people.
If you could see my mental illness then things would be different, I’m sure. But you can’t, so there is a huge stigma attached that makes me hide in shame.
