Needless platitudes didn’t help. ‘At least he didn’t suffer.’ ‘At least you were with him.’ Her dad had died. The myth of positivity didn’t change that.
Don’t ‘wish’ you could help
Don’t give up on your loved one, your friend, spouse, sister, brother, whoever it may be. Show them that you are their cheerleader.
Don’t wait to be asked for help
We don’t want to be a burden. The shame and guilt are overwhelming; the fear of being rejected is suffocating. Asking for help is hard.
My son saw my panic attack
Children are amazingly perceptive. I tried my best to remove myself, as I worry about how it affects them, but my son saw my panic attack.
Hope – You’re here for a reason
The lows can be low but highs will always be higher. Flowers cannot bloom without a little rain. Trust me, you’re here for a reason. Keep fighting.
Back from a mental health break
In those dark moments, I wanted to switch off the light. But, I promise you, I am glad I failed. IT DOES GET BETTER. You grow stronger.
